Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
Some of our clinicians are in-network with Self pay, Aetna, Allegiance, BCBS, Health Montana Kids (HMK), Cigna, First Choice, Montana Medicaid, Mountain Health CO-OP, Optum, Pacific Source, TriCare West Region HNFS, TriWest Healthcare Alliance for individual therapy sessions. At this time, we are not contracted with any other insurance providers. If you have out-of-network benefits, we can offer a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
Can I use my insurance for couples counseling?
Insurance cannot be used for couples therapy when the focus is on the relationship itself rather than on one individual’s mental health treatment. Regardless of whether we are in-network with your insurance, services specifically aimed at relationship counseling are not covered by insurance plans or Medicaid. These programs only reimburse for individual treatment. While sessions labeled as "couples" or "family" therapy may be billable, this is only when one individual is the identified client and others are involved to support that person’s care. Submitting claims for relationship-focused couples therapy may be considered unethical or non-compliant with insurance policies. Currently, major insurance providers, including Medicaid, do not cover therapy where the couple is the client.
How much does therapy cost?
Session rates typically fall between $150 and $200 for a standard 50-minute appointment. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement. We’re happy to provide a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement according to your plan’s out-of-network coverage.
Can I talk to a therapist for a brief consult before making a decision?
Yes, after we identify a therapist who seems like a good fit, you'll be offered a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to see if the match feels right for you.
Can I come to session in person?
Yes! Therapy tends to be most impactful when done in person. Research in neuroscience highlights the benefits of being physically present with others, especially in a therapeutic setting. We offer in person sessions at three different locations.
How frequently should I meet with a therapist?
How often you meet for therapy depends on your schedule, financial considerations, and personal goals. Weekly or bi-weekly sessions are most common, as longer gaps can slow progress. Many people choose to meet more frequently at the beginning and then reduce the frequency over time. You and your therapist will work together to decide what pace feels most supportive for you.

What is nature-based therapy?
Many of our therapists incorporate nature-based therapy, offering sessions both indoors and outdoors. This approach intentionally harnesses the healing power of nature throughout the therapy process. Outdoor sessions provide unique opportunities to engage with nature in ways that support nervous system regulation, create meaningful metaphors, and foster relational and experiential growth. Nature-based therapy can be particularly helpful for individuals healing from trauma, depression, or anxiety. At Evolve In Nature, your therapist will blend nature-based techniques with other therapeutic methods to support your overall treatment plan.
What happens if I meet my therapist outdoors for nature-based therapy and the weather is bad?
Your therapist will work with you ahead of time to create a plan for handling inclement weather, taking into account several factors. If an outdoor session isn’t possible due to weather, your appointment will be shifted to an indoor setting.
Can I transition from individual to couples therapy down the line?
Generally, it’s recommended to work with a therapist who specializes in couples therapy instead of switching from an individual therapist. Additionally, continuing therapy with someone who already has a relationship with one partner can sometimes lead to bias or make the other partner feel uncomfortable or unsafe in the sessions.
Are your therapists able to prescribe medication of needed?
Our therapists do not prescribe medications; this is a service provided exclusively by psychiatrists.
