You have the right to know how much your care will cost—before you receive it.

If you don’t have insurance, or if you’re choosing not to use insurance, your healthcare provider is required by law to give you a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of the expected charges for services. This applies to non-emergency mental health care and includes the expected costs of therapy sessions, assessments, and any related administrative fees.

You have the right to receive this estimate in writing, either on paper or electronically:

  • Within 1 business day if your appointment is scheduled 3–9 days in advance

  • Within 3 business days if scheduled 10 or more days in advance

  • Or within 3 business days of requesting an estimate, even if no appointment is scheduled yet

Your estimate will include a breakdown of expected services, provider information, and an explanation that actual costs may vary. It’s important to know this is not a contract, and you’re not required to move forward with care.

If your final bill is $400 or more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges. Disputes must be filed within 120 calendar days of the date on your bill.

Make sure to save a copy or take a screenshot of your estimate for your records.
